How to become a driving instructor with Traffic.mag.uk
PART 1:
The theory exam
This consists of 100 questions covering all aspects of driving, instructing, mechanics, hazard perception, law and disabilities.
There is an unlimited amount of times that this test can be taken.
PART 2:
The driving test
This consists of a one-hour driving test.
The test will be more intense than the regular driving test with a considerable smaller margin for error and incorporate all aspects off driver ability.
There will be only 3 attempts allowed at this.
When this point has been reached successfully and the candidate has completed the 40 hrs instructional techniques you can then apply for a trainee license and start teaching to gain experience and earn money whilst doing so.
IMPORTANT: this license only last for six months in which time the part 3 exam must have been passed therefore achieving full ADI status.
It is important to keep in mind that the trainee license should only be viewed as a method to gain experience and not as a full time income.
PART 3:
The instructional technique
This is again a one-hour exam designed to get the best out off your personality and knowledge regarding your instructional technique.
This is the area that most PDI’s have problems with, and therefore the upmost care should be taken when training for this exam.
This is why the DSA have set a minimum amount of 40 hours training and an additional 20 hrs if taking a trainee license.
Again there will only be 3 attempts allowed.
