You need to apply to the DVLA you can do this by calling into your local post office and asking for an application form or for a provisional driving licence.
How do I book a driving lesson?
Please check first if we have an instructor in your area by either calling, emailing or telephoning our office. If we have an instructor then just call and book your lesson with us.
How do I book a theory test?
  1. First you will need a driving licence
  2. You will need to prepare for your test
(you can do this by obtaining the theory and hazard test CD from most good stationery shops or from the DSA website)
  3. You can book your test online
(visit www.dsa.gov.uk, you will need you credit or debit card details)
  4. You can book your test by phone
(call the DSA on 0300 200 1122, option 11, you will need your credit or debit card)
  5. You can book your test by post
(if you do not have a credit or debit card then this is the only option available. Applying by post takes slightly longer but it allows you to pay by cheque or postal order. You can get a form by calling the DSA or by going to your local DSA test centre and asking for a theory test form)
How do I book a driving test?
  • First you need to pass your theory test (see above information)
  • It is advisable you have had driving lessons first
(although this is not a requirement we recommend that you have professional driving lessons before applying for your test)
  • Organise the use of a suitable car
(If you are going to use a driving instructors car you will need their permission and his ADI number when booking)
  • You can book your test online
(visit www.dsa.gov.uk, you will need you credit or debit card details)
  • You can book your test by phone
(call the DSA on 0300 200 1122, option 11, you will need your credit or debit card)
  • You can book your test by post
(if you do not have a credit or debit card then this is the only option available. Applying by post takes slightly longer but it allows you to pay by cheque or postal order. You can get a form by calling the DSA or by going to your local DSA test centre and asking for a theory test form)
  • Or you can ask your driving instructor to book it
What preparation do I need?
  • Preparation is the key. Taking a test can become very expensive if you fail to prepare sufficiently, as you will have to take it again and again if you fail. There are many books out there that can help you with your training, or if you have access to a computer you can practice on-line or with a theory test CD.
  • When you are passing the test on a regular basis, you are ready to book your test.
  • To pass your theory test you need to obtain a minimum 43 correct answers from a possible 50. The minimum needed on hazard perception is 44%.
  • Again preparation is the key. The decision on when you are ready to take your test will rest largely on your instructor if you have one, although this is not necessary it is highly recommended.
  • You will need to be of a good standard in all aspects of driving including manoeuvers, general driving and safety issues such as observation and road awareness.
  • Ideally you should have had a number of mock tests to simulate the experience of taking your driving test.
  • The documents you will need for your test are: both parts of your driving license (the plastic photo card and the paper counterpart) and your theory test pass certificate. If you only have the old style of driving license without the photo card then you will also need to bring along a valid passport.
  • You will be asked to perform a simple eye sight test before you are allowed to take your test. You should be able to read a car number plate from 21.5 meters away.
  • You will be asked two questions about either tyres, brakes, fluid levels, lights and horn. These are called “Show me, tell me”.
  • The test itself will take anything up to 45 minutes, but leave yourself free for an hour incase of heavy traffic.

  • Male/female instructors
  • Police checked instructors
  • Free theory training
  • Free gift and welcome pack
  • Discounts for students and unemployed
  • Pass plus course
  • Taxi training (private hire)
  • ADIs and PDIs
